Brace yourselves, I’m about to tell you about this really nice American restaurant spotted in my stay in Chicago before coming back home. Bandera. If there’s one thing I got to know and love about Chicagoans, it’s that they travel for good food. Case in point: Bandera in Michigan Avenue.
Bandera has five different locations in the states. In Chicago the restaurant is perched above Michigan Avenue just north of the river at Grand Avenue. I came here with my gf post dinner. We were warmly greeted. As soon as we stepped in, we found a flashy american flag on the right, an open kitchen and a piano bar on the left side, all surrounded by some live jazz music. The casual atmosphere, chic and comforting, radiated friendliness.
We seated at the piano bar, all the other seats were full so I’d recommend making a reservation via phone in advance (especially during the weekend). It’s fancy and it has character, at the same time, thanks to the decorations, the live music in the background and vibrant artwork.
My gf and I came here after dinner to continue our date night. We ordered a coktail and a glass of wine from the menu. I got the Bee’s Knees, a combination of koval gin, reshly squeezed lemon juice and honey syrup. I enjoyed particulary the fragrance of it and the bitter&sweet mix.
Admittedly, we were pretty stuffed, but the desserts looked so interesting.
A couple behind us order the one we were looking at, Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich.
After we saw it, we made our decision: we had to try it.
I loved the presentation. The Home-Made Oreo Sandwich were delicately resting in a dark chocolate sauce. The mint leaves on top were perfect for decorating, simple but elegant.
I was very impressed with our experience at Bandera. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you feel like you’re somewhere special. The place exudes elegance, without being overly stuffy or pretentious. I loved our dessert and I can’t wait to come here again for a proper dinner. Our service was excellent as well. I highly recommend a meal at Bandera if you’re looking for a special occasion spot without the special occasion stuffiness.
I’m giving Bandera 5 hearts out of 5!
