Today on the blog I want to talk about a special place in Bergamo not many people know about it: La Valle della BioDiversità or the Valley of BioDiversity in English. To my eyes, it’s a little green oasis located in the Astino Valley.
This garden is an open museum full of preciousness, where people study and keep botanical collections that convey the relationship between plants and human beings; it’s a space of relationships and experiences, to educate to sustainability.
The goal is to show different species of vegetables and flowers, trying to find asnwers to some important questions.
Our species consists of almost 7 billion people, never so many at the same time. Since time immemorial we have to eat every day and for this reason we draw resources from the agricultural and natural habitats to satisfy our insatiable appetite.
In the Valle della Biodiversità the Botanic Garden of Bergamo seeks to answer one of these questions: What plants does man nourish himself with on the planet?
Here you will find plant collections that perform their biological cycles before our eyes, following the seasons and the suitable agronomic practices. This means that not all the plants are present simultaneously, they depend on the seasons and on crop rotations.
In this green place you will notice in every season many coloured flowers in each flowerbed. They are the important flowerings because they attract useful insects and repel harmful organisms.
I just love gardens full of flowers, looking at those different shapes. My favourite were the sunflowers! No flower can lift someone’s spirits quite like sunflowers. They are bright and cheery, and as warm and inviting as the sweet summer sun. Don’t you think so? 😀
The Valley of BioDiversity often organises picnics or events about food and how to eat healthy and properly.
Hope you found this interesting! I love walking here whenever I can, being surrounded by nature and breathing this sense of peace all around me.
Such environment gives one a sense of tranquility and allows them to contemplate about their life, reduces anxiety and allows healthy mental space. Some prefer to stay in such places especially after going through big changes in their lives or procedures like epicanthoplasty or any surgery.
Entry is free. Dogs are allowed only if they are on leash.
