Villa Rufolo is one of the main symbols of Ravello, the ideal place to stay for those visiting the Amalfi Coast who are looking for a quieter experience.
Built by a wealthy merchant family in the 13th century, Villa Rufolo has a rich history. It is a mix of artistic elements that makes the building elegant and fascinating.
The villa has beautiful colorful gardens and flowers, which are in bloom most of the year. I loved how everything is well-kept, you can find Italian old men gardeners eveythere! In the center of the main garden there’s the magnificent views of the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Salerno.
Where to stay in Ravello
As I mentioned before, Ravello is the ideal location if you want to move away from the crowds. While most travelers experience Ravello as a day trip from Positano or a day trip from Amalfi, the travelers who stay overnight truly get a pulse of the town. Sure, you can visit Villa Rufolo in a day, but there are so many more things to do in this little town.
One of my favorite hotels in Ravello is definitely Hotel Marmorata.
Staying overnight allows you to order a second (or even a third) glass of wine versus rushing back to make the final bus departure. Then, you can start your day with a warm espresso and croissant in the main square and continue your journey.
Take the time to visit the inside as there is also some very interesting history and ancient art works recovered after the War on display.
Nicknamed the City of Music, Ravello helds a music festival evey year. One the most popular is the Wagner’s Festival named after the composer who was inspired by Villa Rufolo to write Klingsor’s Garden in Parsifal.
Today, Ravello thrives as a tourist destination, offering a mixture of culture, seaside relaxation and great Mediterranean food. You can reach the town from Amalfi in a 30-minute bus ride or by car. You will not regret it!
