The place you are staying rarely precedes the trip. It usually serves more of a functional purpose than being the main draw of travel itself, but in the case of Kihei, it was the “What a Wonderful World” Bed and Breakfast that beckoned me to step foot in this gorgeous corner of Maui. And I’m so glad I did.
Kihei, of course, needs a little introduction. This little Hawaiian seaside town is nestled between Maalaea and Wailea on the south side of Maui. Uncrowded, but not too sleepy, Kihei has lots to explore. Should you decide to venture away from your home-away-from-home and go out for a stroll, there are great restaurants and beaches.
What a Wonderful World is an elegant family-friendly Bed and Breakfast that coexists in harmony with the natural landscape surrounding it.
In general, there are currently four suites, named after fruits common in Hawaii: Guava, Pineapple, Papaya, Mango. Every unit is provided with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, and WiFi. Each accommodation is lovingly furnished with hardwood floors, Hawaiian themed quilts, luxurious slate showers and a separate dining area with a full kitchen, utensils to cook, sink and a small fridge.
@nina.mclernon and I stayed at a beautiful suite, a one bedroom apartment on the property. It is perfect for guests who desire more room and comfort and their own private garden. If you prefer to have a night in, you can grill in the garden with outdoor seating. Filled with natural light, a spacious bedroom and a comfy sofa with TV – truth to be told I never watched – the Palm Suite was above our expectations.
Every morning from 7.30 to 9.30 am, on the upper lanai, there is a beautiful continental breakfast waiting for you. From a wide selection of tropical and local fruit such as pineapple, papaya, watermelon, kiwi to sweet and savory croissants and toasts with jam, nutella, cheese, ham and ripe avocados. Coffee is always available and of course tea, juice and even almond milk for the healthiest choice.
I loved waking up early in the morning and listening to the owner, Eva and her fascinating stories. If you’re lucky enough to see her, you’ll get to see her dog as well! She loves sleeping in and get cozy under one of the tables. Breakfast was perfect with the views of the ocean, West Maui Mountains and Haleakala, the East Maui volcano.
